Born Cynthia Morris Sherman on January 19, 1954, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Cindy Sherman is an American artist highly regarded as an important figure in the so-called Pictures Generation. Her works chiefly comprise self-portrait photographs showcasing herself in a variety of contexts.
