Born in Philadelphia in 1950, Steve McCurry is a multi-award-winning photojournalist, freelancer, and photographer. He is mainly known for his photography assignments for National Geographic and as one of the leading members of Magnum Photos. McCurry has snapped some of the most legendary and memorable images of the twentieth and twenty-first century, including the Afghan Girl, which has made the cover of National Geographic multiple times.

McCurry produces straightforward yet powerful photos that genuinely depict places and people in their elements with a thoughtful approach to photojournalism and photography. He has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the International Center of Photography (ICP) and Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma (MACRO).
