Born on 9 July 1937 in Bradford, the UK, David Hockney is a British painter, photographer, stage designer, printmaker, and draftsman. He is one of the most prolific, celebrated, and indeed influential English artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, owing to his immense contribution to the 1960’s pop art movement.
Strikingly versatile and imaginative, Hockney has created a considerable collection of full-scale set designs, photo collages, acrylic paintings, and most recently, digital artworks. He’s well-known and celebrated in the LGBT community. He’s been exhibited at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among many other museums and art galleries.
