Feminist art is an art movement in which artists highlight women’s lives and gender-based experiences within society. The term gained currency in the late 1960s through the early 1970s following the emergence of the feminist art theory (aka the second wave of feminism).

No standalone style or medium brings together feminist artists under one roof. Instead, feminist art encompasses a wide variety of aspects borrowed from other neighboring art movements, most notably video art, body art, performance art, collaborative installation, and conceptual art. The primary purpose of these artworks is to speak to gender-related inequalities embedded in society.
